Caring For Your Tumble and the Science Behind the Best Washable Rug

Caring For Your Tumble and the Science Behind the Best Washable Rug

As Labor Day weekend approaches, so too does the looming anxiety of protecting your home’s decor from excited holiday guests, especially your interior rugs. From overflowing plates of food to seemingly never-ending foot traffic in and out of the front door, the likelihood of ending the day with a stain on your rug is fairly high. As exciting as hosting friends, family, and loved ones for a holiday weekend is, it’s hard to ignore the stress that often comes with it.

At Tumble, we adapt to your life — not the other way around. That’s why we’ve set out to design the best washable rug that will give you peace of mind during every holiday gathering, family birthday party, and other crowded events you host throughout the year. So, when creating our washable rugs, we made sure to equip them with two lines of defense against everyday messes and spills: spillproof technology and machine washable structure.

For too long, we were frustrated with the fact that nice home furnishings were easily ruined and difficult to care for. So, we developed a unique line of high-end machine washable and spill proof rugs to combat this problem. You may be wondering how this is possible, and we’re here to give insight into the science behind what makes Tumble rugs different from anything else on the market.

Spillproof Technology

Tumble rugs are made of a polyester knit backing and 100% polyester chenille that is soft to the touch, so you don’t have to sacrifice comfort for convenience. This soft fabric is then coated with a water-based solution that is commonly used in medical and outdoor clothing. This coating works to separate the oils, stains, or liquids from the fabric and instead causes it to bead up rather than absorb into the rung. This barrier is not visible and cannot be felt.

When designing the Tumble rug, we made sure to test the spillproof technology in accordance with United States Safety Standards and California’s Proposition 65 which requires businesses to provide warnings to Californians about significant exposures to chemicals that cause cancer, birth defects, or other reproductive harm. At a Consumer Product Safety Commission-approved testing facility, our rugs have been tested for harmful chemicals which are commonly found in waterproof coatings and in other washable rugs. Additionally, we ensured the foam rug pad that fits underneath each Tumble was made of a combination of non-toxic EVA foam and a non-toxic, latex-free, rubber-free resin to prevent the rug from slipping.

Machine Washable Construction

Although we implemented the spillproof technology as the first line of defense against stains, we also designed our rugs to be machine washable. For best results, make sure to have any stains facing outward and wash cold on a delicate cycle using standard laundry detergent. In order to maintain your Tumble’s beautiful design and quality, we recommend against using detergent that contains bleach or fabric softener. Once the rug has gone through the wash cycle, you can choose to tumble dry it on low heat or hang it to let the rug air dry. If you choose to let your Tumble air dry, be sure to allow for one to two days before it is fully dry.

Over time, the spillproof effect may begin to diminish. But, as previously mentioned, this was only intended to be a first line of defense and the rug will maintain its washer-friendly construction for the entirety of its lifespan. There is no limit to the number of washes that you will get out of your Tumble. However, as with any washable product, excessive washing with harsh detergents may begin to damage the polyester fibers which is why we recommend the above method to ensure gentle washing.

*Note: only the Tumble rug is machine washable. The rug pad can instead be cleaned effortlessly with soap and water.

Vacuum Friendly

The advanced spillproof and machine washable technology of the Tumble does not negate the cleaning techniques used for common rugs and ours are still vacuum friendly. To preserve your Tumble’s lifespan, we recommend vacuuming on the lowest setting without use of a beater brush. Also, avoid vacuuming the sewn edges of the rug and the use of autonomous robot vacuums as they’ve been known to damage the rug’s edges.

With the time and energy we’ve invested into developing Tumble’s spillproof technology and machine washable design, we believe we’re on the path to bringing you the best washable rug. The ease with which the Tumble can be cleaned truly makes it the best pet friendly and kid friendly rug. For answers to more commonly asked questions, visit our FAQ page.
